Devouring Nearly 20 Different Types of Asparagus Was a Delicious Experience
When I was a kid our family would hunt wild asparagus at Columbia Point and better still on Bateman Island. Don’t laugh, a successful hunt meant we would return home with brown grocery paper bags full of the delicious vegetable. As a friend of a subscriber to CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) from Schreiber & Sons farms I was able to attend, for a fee, an incredible event for an asparagus lover. Did you know that there’s more then one type of asparagus? I didn’t or better stated I didn’t think about it. Sure I had seen white and purple asparagus but my plate was always the home of good old garden variety green asparagus of which I thought there was just one type, WRONG! The event included a tutorial and tastings on up to 20 varieties of asparagus plus aspects and questions on asparagus that you may or may not have thought of. The varieties have grandiose names such as: Purple Passion, Rhapsody, Guelph Millenium, Sweet Purple and Atlas with lineage from all over the world. Thank you Alan Schreiber, organic farmer.
