The Finley School District has responded to a media report claiming the elementary school was briefly shut down last October.

Tuesday, a news item was published on the KNDU-TV Facebook page showing a list of businesses reportedly shut down by the Benton Franklin District Health Department for alleged violations over the last year. The shutdowns ranged from as little as 15 minutes to 24-hours (or longer).

The list included Finley Elementary School, but should not have, the district said.

The trouble originated with a hand-written note dated Oct. 23 saying, “no water.” District Public Information Officer Molly Curtis said,

No areas were listed out of compliance… the school was NEVER closed or in violation of any health risks.

Apparently power went out to the school around lunch time when the health inspectors were visiting. The department’s report included “violations” that were the result of the power outage, but were not risks to anyone’s health. The statement from the Finley School District included a copy of the Health Department Inspection Report.
