Afternoons With Lon Martin

Fill in the blank to be entered to win Father's Day dinner for 10 at Fujiyamas:
I moved to the Tri-Cities about 18 months ago from Utah, where almost all the roller skating rinks have closed down. When my six year old asked to go roller skating the other night I was surprised
I found a new park this week. It’s in the south west corner of OLD Richland west of Fred Myer. It had a very nice climbing toy my kids were big fans of.
Working at the radio station I heard a lot about Kids Fishing Day but I told my coworkers, “No way I’m taking my kids fishing with 1,200 other kids!” But as luck would have it, my kids asked to play at the Playground of Dreams that same day, so we ran into the event. I WAS SO IMPRESSED! It was awesome and my kids were really sad we weren’t there to fish!
Right by the pump house along the Richland dike – just up from the boat ramp – there’s a red bench with a little pipe next to it. The plaque reads, “The Bill & Captain Bench.” My uncle lives near it and thinks he knows the story. I’m interested in seeing if anyone can confirm his story.
My Facebook account is going nuts today over two videos. A guy singing his heart out at the gas pump for a Jay Leno gag and two guys hooked up to a labor-pain simulator to experience what women feel during childbirth. Have a look:
Make the Dash Count is a charity based in Prosser serving at-risk youth. It takes a unique approach to service. Instead of serving kids directly, Make the Dash Count creates review boards comprised of high school-aged youth. They accept grant nominations from non-profit groups working with at-ris
We had three pairs of tickets to give away for “Elvis Lives!” the tribute concert coming to the Toyota Center May 7 . Of the hundreds of people who played Elvis Trivia, Michelle Johnson was the randomly-selected winner of the third and final pair of tickets!
Here are your 40 favorite songs heard on KOOL.
Sure we claim Hope Solo as a hometown gal, but that doesn't mean we have her new cell phone number or anything. But that special distinction got less special yesterday when she accidentally Tweeted it to all 660,000+ of her Twitter followers.
When is Mother's Day in 2013? It's Sunday, May 12. That means it's time to start planning. We have a few suggestions:
Who else remembers going to the shooting range with their dad at eleven years old? I do. We would head down to Hole in the Wall and he would show me how to use his Glock -- or sometimes we would head out to Badger Canyon and up into the hills to find a nice spot to unleash the double barrel on an old broke-down computer monitor we didn't need anymore. Needless to say they were good times and great bonding moments with my father. Now I'd like to take my kids out to a good range and show them how to shoot too, but the times have changed. Where are the best places to go shooting and take your family?
