What’s the Worst Tri-Cities Flood You Remember?
We all remember when the Yakima River flooded Benton County last May. Some of us can go further back through our recollection to recover memories of floods in our lifetimes. Andrew Kirk remembers living on Canal Drive in Kennewick in the early 90’s when the canal broke. Water flooded the highway and Columbia Park . Columbia Park was completely covered by a thin layer of water. We want you to share your stories with us.
With help from the East Benton County Historical Society, we’ve dug up some classic photos of floods that hit the Tri-Cities. In the top photo you can see the approach off of the Green Bridge into Kennewick. The bottom photo highlights the sand-bagged drive in Richland. I believe it was called the “Miracle Mile” at that time. I hope these pictures spark the memories you have of the floods you’ve witnessed.
