Beau the Goat Was Stranded on a Cliff Ledge Until Two Rescuers Won Him Over

Thanks to an all volunteer rescue team in Washington State, a Boer goat named Beau is safely back home with his owner living the good life.

Beau Disappeared Over the Edge of a Steep Bluff on Whidbey Island

It turns out Beau had fallen approximately 45-feet down and was stranded on a ledge with a 75-foot drop. Beau was indeed stuck and couldn't make to safety on his own.

Enter Washington State Animal Response Team to Assess the Situation

Beau's owner provided photos to the team, and a rescuer rappelled over the ledge to see what was happening. Beau was located on the side of a fallen tree. Between the tree and a cliff wall, Beau was using a narrow tunnel to travel back and forth along a narrow ledge. According to WASART:

Beau was alert, nibbling vegetation, and appeared uninjured—but he was understandably wary of the unexpected visitor who had just appeared on his ledge.

After Several Attempts to Coax Beau Into a Rescue Sling, Changes Were Made

A second rope system was implemented and another rescuer went down. For almost 30 minutes they worked to gain Beau's trust.

Finally, Success! They Got Beau Into a Rescue Harness

At one point, Beau darted onto an even narrower, more exposed section of the ledge. Rather than chasing him, our rescuers calmly repositioned themselves, allowing him to move back toward the safety of the tunnel, where food—and his rescuers—were waiting.
